Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care


This is a work-related qualification which develops themes required for careers or further study in the rewarding Health and Social Care sector.

Core units include:

  • Effective Communication in Health and Social Care
  • Equality, Diversity and Rights
  • Health, Safety and Security
  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Personal and Professional Development

You will also work towards Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English, and there are optional classes for people wanting to achieve GCSE English, maths and science. In both years you will do work experience placements requiring a DBS check.

Entry Requirement:

5 or more GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English and maths, BTEC Level 2 in Health and Social Care (merit / distinction), written assessment and College interview.


Where does it lead:

You can progress to university to study a range of subjects including Nursing, Social Work or Health and Social Care. After year one, if you stay to complete the full Extended Diploma, you can use this qualification to seek employment.
