Level 2 Fashion Design

The applied arts are all the arts that apply design and decoration to everyday and essentially practical objects in order to make them aesthetically pleasing. Applied arts differs from fine art in that fine art produces objects with no practical use, whose only purpose is to be beautiful or stimulate the intellect in some way.

This is an exciting year long course delivered through inspirational projects by tutors and practitioners in well-equipped studios and workshops. During the year you will have workshops and opportunities to introduce you to the following subjects, techniques and processes:

  • Textiles and fabric design,
  • Ceramics and pottery,
  • Pattern and surface design,
  • Visual communication and illustration,
  • Interior design,
  • Fashion/costume design,
  • Theatre/set design.

During the course you will work in sketchbooks and on design sheets to collate your ideas. You will also work in workshops and with upto date technology to ensure your work is professional and well presented.

You will have the opportunity to work on live projects with links to industry. You will build a portfolio of your own work for employment or further education applications. Throughout the programme there are educational visits to galleries, workshops, museums, exhibitions and places of specific interest to extend your awareness of the wide range of contemporary creative activity.

There could also be the opportunity to produce work for a commercial context and sell your produce. At the end of the course you will work on a Personal Project in a specialist area, which will be exhibited in the Creative Show for parents, practitioners and VIPs.
