Topics

This is a practical one-year study programme designed to provide students who are interested in working in accounts or finance, with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to obtain employment as an accounts junior.

You can expect to study the following units:

  • Bookkeeping Transaction - introduction to manual bookkeeping
  • Bookkeeping Controls - continuation of bookkeeping and an introduction to banking, payroll and corrections
  • Elements of costing - this covers a range of techniques used to calculate the way in which businesses cost up and set prices for goods and services
  • Using Accounting Software - this covers the use of SAGE packages
  • Working Effectively in Accounts - this module covers office culture and administration

Students will also develop their employability skills – such as problem-solving, self-reliance and teamwork.

The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting involves students taking five modules covering the basics of bookkeeping, costing, using computerised accounting packages and office procedures. Each module will involve students taking an online examination – one will take place every few weeks. Once all five modules are passed, a weighted average of the scores achieved will be used to arrive at a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade.

  • Assessment Criteria

100% Exam (Pass, Merit and Distinction grades awarded at Level 2)

Further information

Students who perform well at Level 2 (usually achieving at least a Merit grade) can progress onto the full-time Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Many students obtain employment or apprenticeships in accounts or finance (usually local firms or larger companies in London) and continue their AAT studies on day-release or evening programmes.
