Entry requirements

English Language grade 3 (D) or above at GCSE, plus 4 grade at grade 2 (E) or above, one being maths. A satisfactory interview and a completed DBS (formerly Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)) check. Satisfactory free writing task and skills builder test.

Topics

This is an introductory qualification if you are interested in working with children or in the health and social care sector. You will cover the following units: - How humans develop throughout their lifespan; - Food and nutrition; - Health and safety; - Care of children; - Play and practical activities. If you wish to progress to a level 2 qualification will complete a placement in a pre-school at the end of the year.
  • Assessment Criteria

    There are six subject areas and you will be assessed on these using a variety of written and practical tasks. All units are compulsory and in addition you will study Functional Skills or GCSE in English and maths if required.

Further information

If you make good progress and have good attendance, punctuality and behaviour, you may progress on to the CACHE Level 2 Early Years Education and Care Certificate or the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care.
