The ICT BTEC Extended Diploma is a two-year qualification equivalent to three A Levels. It is designed for students who are interested in progressing to further study in IT-related disciplines. IT systems have a significant role in the world around us and play a part in almost everything we do. This course gives students a broad base of knowledge of the IT sector. The optional units enable students to explore their own choice of areas to go on to further study and they will also have gained enough skills and knowledge to enable them to progress to employment in the IT sector.

This course is designed to be studied over two years and fully meets entry requirements for progression to a university degree course. You will work on a number of practical assignments in units and will be assessed on a grade scale of Pass, Merit or Distinction. Some units are mandatory and some are optional. You will study topics such as: Cyber Security, Animation (2D and 3D), Networking, Project Management, Multimedia, E-commerce, Website Production, Animation and Programming.

You can expect:

  • Employer involvement: Students get a taste of their career through direct contact with employers via a two-week work experience
  • Assignments: Set and marked by teachers and verified externally
  • Tasks: Provide students with work-based challenges in timed, realistic work conditions
  • Written exams: Students create written answers to practical questions in exam conditions

The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. It is a full study programme and is therefore not taken with any other course. Having a sound understanding of IT systems will benefit you personally and professionally. You can apply the knowledge, skills and understanding gained to succeed in your future career.
