English Language and Maths grade 4 plus 3 other grade 4 GCSEs.

Topics

The ICT BTEC Extended Certificate is a two-year qualification equivalent to one A Level. This qualification is designed to support students who are interested in learning about the computing sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses. It is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. You will study 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.

There are 4 units, three are mandatory, and one is optional.

The course uses a combination of assessment styles to give students the confidence to apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace or to continue learning on higher education courses. This qualification is studied alongside 2 or 3 other A Levels or Level 3 BTEC equivalent courses.The course allows students to gain fundamental knowledge and skills in computing from which they can progress to broader or more specialist study at higher level.  The qualification can be taken in combination with A Levels or other vocational qualifications to meet progression requirements.

    YR 1 Coursework internally assessed 50% and External assessment 50%

    YR 2 Coursework internally assessed 58% and External assessment 42%

  • Further Information

    Two year Level 3 BTEC course of 4x 70min lessons per week (equivalent to 1 A Level); subject to the successful completion of a certificate (equivalent to 0.5 A Levels) in the first year.

Further information

This course, when studied with other Level 3 qualifications, fully meets entry requirements for progression to university degrees, such as Computer Science, Digital Technology Solutions,  Management for Business or Computer Forensics. It also enables students to develop knowledge and skills needed for entry-level roles related to this sector, including vocational apprenticeship and trainee roles.
