Entry requirements

Four or more?GCSEs at grade?3 (or equivalent), including?English Language

  • Level 1 BTEC Diploma at Merit
  • Entry criteria - students must have a keen interest in English as there are several assessments where this is very important.


This qualification covers the intermediate skills and knowledge required for working as a legal secretary. You will first learn to touch type and throughout the year you will cover the main areas of law in a solicitor's office such as criminal, civil, probate, corporate family and conveyancing You will study for a proofreading exam which must be passed to gain the qualification.

You must undertake one week of work experience in a professional organisation either in the city or in a local law firm. The course lasts one year and successful completion at a merit allows entry to the advanced version of the course in the following year.
