Entry requirements

Successful completion of Body Repair & Paint Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject and/or GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or above. Students must also have a satisfactory interview with motor vehicle course staff and a skills assessment.

Topics

This course will give you the specialist skills required to either progress to employment within the industry or to a Level 3 Diploma.

You can expect to study units including:

  • Spray painting techniques
  • Minor damage repair
  • M.E.T. stripping and refitting
  • Panel preparation
  • Welding and panel fabrication

Evidence of competence is gathered and compiled by you, the student, throughout the academic year. Continuous observation is made by the tutor. 

If you have not yet achieved GCSE grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths, you will study additional English and/or Maths courses alongside this course.

If you love cars and are considering working in the motor vehicle accident repair industry, this course will give you those specialist skills in repairing and painting bodywork. The course will develop the skills required to either progress to a Level 3 Diploma to develop further, or to go straight into employment or an apprenticeship iin a workshop or garage.

  • Assessment Criteria

    Continuous assessment involves: Evidence of competence gathered and compiled by the student throughout the academic year; Continuous observation by the tutor; Tutor marked workbooks as evidence of practical workshop assessments; Online multi-choice exams, set by IMI, to test theoretical knowledge; and student produced portfolios (assessed by the college and IMI).

Further Information

You can progress onto a career in the motor vehicle accident body repair trade or to any other related trade in the motor vehicle industry.
