Motion Graphics is a versatile skillset that can be applied in a range of sectors such as advertising, broadcasting, games, and films. The growth of the both online content and the games industry means high demand for Motion Graphics and Visual Effects (VFX) artists. Whether it's producing graphics for TV commercials, working on UX and UI design, or creating pitches for advertising agencies, this programme provides the ultimate skills you need to succeed, and for you to uncover the industry specialist graphic or special effects role for you.

The Motion Graphics programmes are delivered over the whole of a converted top floor of a Grade II listed college building. This purpose built open-plan studio and workshop complex includes both Apple Mac and high-end PC suites, fully loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud software. Our tutors all have relevant experience of industry bringing a wide range of experience and expertise to the programmes.

Working as part of the Blue Orange learning company you will be taught how to develop your creative ability and professionalism through work on live client briefs, competitions, and the development of digital services for sale. On some projects you may be expected to adopt an industry role.  You are encouraged to consider what kind of industry role you might adopt after college or University or consider your own creative business venture.

Course Content

New BTEC Creative Practice qualifications - continuously assessed (NO exams!) Equivalent to 3 full A levels for the 2-year programme, although students can choose to take Year 1 only.

Focus on developing creative skills, developing own creative practice, working towards a self-devised Final Major Project (FMP) at the end of each year.

Highly practical and progression focused –  all assessment is holistic, based on portfolios of work. Evidence is generated through practical projects, briefs, workshops and engagement with the media industry; this prepares learners for progression to the media industry through the development of portfolios and materials for progression.

Light-touch assessment regime - only 4 Units over the 2 year course:

  • A Exploring and Developing Creative Media Skills (year 1)
    • A1 Skills Development
    • A2 Creative Project
  • B Advancing Creative Practice (year 2)
    • B1 Personal Progression
    • B2 Creative Industry Response

Most of the grade is awarded to the FMP Units at the end of year 2 (or year 1 for single-year students).

Common assessment criteria - the same five common assessment criteria are used to assess all work produced throughout the qualification, this simplifies assessment and  means that it is clear what learners are expected to do to achieve the criteria:

  • Informing ideas
  • Problem solving
  • Technical skills
  • Professional practice
  • Communication
