Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher, including English and Maths, or equivalent Level 2 qualification.


If you are interested in a career in sports coaching, development, or teaching this is the course for you! Academically, you will study towards the BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development which will develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge you will need to succeed in your chosen career.

The Foundation Diploma is a one year course,however the vast majority of students will stay on into year 2 to complete the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development. Additionally, you will have access to a range of high quality work placements which will allow you to enhance your skill set in a real life environment. These placements include local primary and secondary schools, sports clubs and county level coaching organisations.

As you progress through the programme, you will enhance your coaching and leadership portfolio designed to make you more employable and provide you with a springboard into your chosen career pathway; or progression to university.

When filling out your application for this course, you will be asked if you want to add on a pathway. Simply select your chosen pathway from the dropdown list. It’s that easy!

Further Information

Many students decide to progress to university on completion of this programme. However, you may also pursue full-time work or a sports specific internship/apprenticeship.
