Entry requirements

A relevant L2 qualification; or 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or higher, including English and maths.


This exciting leading course is designed to bring out your creativity and flair for theatrical media make-up in readiness for a career in this competitive industry. You will cover advanced make-up techniques for film, television and stage alongside other media purposes. This comprehensive course covers basic hairdressing, media make-up, wigs and postiche, character make-up and special effects .

There will be the opportunity to practice skills on fellow students and clients. The practical elements of the course are combined with the study of anatomy and physiology, health and safety and client care in beauty related industries. During your course you will be involved in many events including educational visits, open events, promotional events both in the college and at external venues, charity events, client salon sessions, student and class led events. There will also be guest speakers and industry training opportunities, competitions and a fantastic end of year show.

What Can This Course Lead To

From this course you can gain freelance employment working in the theatre, TV and film and doing photographic work. Other career paths include working with fashion and cosmetics companies as promotional make-up artists. You may also wish to progress on to a higher level qualification.
