Grade 3 English Language GCSE, 4 GCSEs at grade 3 including Maths OR English

Course information

This is a study programme which helps you to develop knowledge, skills, and personal qualities needed to work in a health or social care setting. You will learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. You will also have the opportunity to carry out work placements. You will be learning to understand human growth and development through the life stages, exploring cultural diversity, developing effective communication skills, and exploring the impact of diet on people’s health.

Key topics

A variety of teaching methods are used to match varied assessment tasks. These include classroom lessons, workshops in the LRC and visits from external speakers. There are also organised visits for every unit and a well-resourced VLE to help with independent study
  • How you are assessed

    All units in this qualification are internally graded A* – D. Units will be assessed through a range of activities including written tasks, role play, verbal presentations and displays. Learners will produce a portfolio that demonstrates their learning and skills in the workplace. You will receive assignments made up of a variety of tasks and be expected to meet deadlines for assignments.

What Can This Course Lead To

The health and social care sector is one of the biggest employers in the UK with nearly four million people working in the sector. It is a job that will always be in demand. On successful completion of the course, you may progress onto the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or Child Care or a Level 3 apprenticeship. These can lead to university and a professional qualification such as a nurse or social worker with starting salaries of around £27,000 a year You will also be able to apply for work in the health and social care sector as a Care Worker or Health Care Assistant. You can apply for jobs at the Homerton Hospital for example with a level 2 qualification with salaries of £22,000 a year.
