Level 4 Pearson BTEC Certificate in Education and Training

The BTEC Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a one-year professional qualification for people teaching in further education colleges, adult education, and a wide range of other training and educational settings that are outside the school sector. This qualification provides a route to Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.

How Long is the Course and When Will it Start?

This is a one year course delivered over three terms in line with the college timetable. The majority of the classroom delivery takes place over one afternoon or evening to provide students with four clear days to carry out teaching practice.

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learning in education and training
  • Using resources for education and training
  • Developing blended learning resources for education and training
  • Action research

What equipment will I need?

In order to present your work to a professional standard and carry out online research you will need to have access to a computer with internet connection. You will be taught how to use technology effectively for teaching and learning, using a plethora of online educational tools and resources that will help you to design and deliver learning.

Entry Requirement:

You will need to hold a vocational and/or academic qualification of at least one level above that of the learners taught and ideally hold a Level 3 qualification in your subject specialism.

You must have Level 2 (GCSE) English and maths or equivalent and have ICT skills (or be willing to develop them).

You should be in paid employment or have a voluntary position, as a teacher or trainer, for a minimum of 30 hours at a recognized training or educational institution. This will be discussed further with you at the interview stage.

You must also not have a criminal record which might prevent you from working with children/young people or vulnerable adults.

Where does it lead:

Once completed, you will meet the government requirement that all teachers and trainers working in the further and adult education sector should acquire a teaching qualification.
