Students normally gain suitable employment whilst studying on this programme or already in suitable employment and want to gain the qualification to move further within their career.
There are no strict entry requirements, however, students need a strong command of English Language as there is a proofreading exam that must be passed to be successful. If students have previous experience of working in an office environment this would be advantageous.
This course is designed to prepare you for professional legal secretarial or administration roles. You will learn how to create legal documentation for different areas of law using the Microsoft Office suite to an advanced level. You will also learn how to transcribe using appropriate digital audio software as well as studying aspects of working in an office such as Health and Safety legislation and teamwork and human resources.
Throughout the year you will work on an administration unit called Business Skills where you will study different aspects of working as a legal secretary and undertake 5 assessments. At an appropriate time in the year you will undertake Advanced Legal Word Processing and Advanced Audio Transcription Exams. Combined with the results from Business Skills Unit and the exams you will receive a grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.
You will cover the main areas of law in a solicitors office such as criminal, civil, probate, corporate and conveyancing You will study for a proofreading exam which must be passed to gain the qualification.
