Entry requirements

No previous experience is necessary, but you will need to demonstrate some basic knowledge of fashion

You will study two units relevant to the fashion industry. These will enable you to learn basic skills in garment construction and the use of industrial sewing machines and pattern cutting techniques. You will also develop basic skills in flat patterns and practical knowledge in lay planning, you will also develop your English and maths skills.

This qualification has been designed in response to an identified industry need for specific programmes of learning within the fashion and textiles sector. It provides learners with specialist and transferable skills, engages them with current industry practice, and prepares them to progress onto further qualifications or employment opportunities. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of some of the following, soft furnishing, surface patterning, industrial garment construction, and more.

Learners who complete this qualification can progress to the Creative Skillset Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeships, into employment and/or further education and training.

This course is designed for adults to wish to gain industry standard skills and join the creative industries.

  • Assessment Criteria

    You are required to complete practical tasks which must be evidenced in folders, annotation of work, and produce an end outcomes based on a theme/task. The work completed will form part of your course assessment. It is assessed and graded internally by a combination of practical work with end outcomes, presentations, exhibitions and written work. The work produced will relate to specific unit assignments and by the end of the year you will be expected to have completed your folder and two garments.

Further information

ABC Level 2 in Sewing and Textiles or ABC Level 2 in Pattern Cutting. Learners who complete this qualification can progress to the Creative Skillset Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeships, into employment and/or further education and training.
