Course Fees

Entry requirements

  • Learners must be at least 19 years old
  • Learners must be working or volunteering in a learning environment (school or college) for 2 full days per week
  • Literacy & numeracy skills at level 1 equivalent (or working towards)
  • Attend an interview and complete an initial assessment with the programme team


The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments.

It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships. It is aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary, as well as colleges.

  • Assessment Criteria

    You will be appointed an assessor and they will visit you in the workplace to carry out observations of your work. You will also discuss your work as a teaching assistant and complete log sheets. There are also written assignments to complete.

Further Information

You may want to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning course. Typically, you will go on to work in a school as a teaching assistant. You may wish to look for work as a general classroom assistant or as a support assistant for individuals with specific learning needs.
