GCSE English language or mathematics at Grade 4, plus GCSE English Language or mathematics at Grade 3.
You will learn the theory and practical skills covering plumbing and domestic heating. To pass the course you will need to complete practical tasks and theory tests. Your tutor will help you to prepare for these. At the same time you will be improving your wider skills such as Maths, English and ICT. These are all skills you will need to progress to the next level or into an apprenticeship.
The course will focus on a range of basic plumbing theory and practices, including:
- Pipe bending and types of jointing
- Basic maintenance on taps and valves
- Rainwater systems and maintenance
- Basin and WC installation and maintenance
- Health and safety
- Environmental awareness
Compulsory units to be studied include: Structure of the construction industry; Fundamental safe working practices; Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings; Site preparation for working in the construction industry; Above ground drainage; Copper pipework; Plastic pressure pipework; Low carbon steel pipework; Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems and Plumbing science.
The City and Guilds Level 1 Plumbing Studies course is a practical qualification aimed at those students who want to pursue a career as a plumber. The course is an introduction to plumbing and will help you learn, develop and practise the basic skills and knowledge needed for employment within the plumbing industry. The course will provide a solid understanding of the importance of safety at work and will give you the chance to meet representatives currently working within the industry. Successful students can progress onto our Level 2 Plumbing qualifications.
