The First Certificate is a Level 2 BTEC and is equivalent to two GCSEs. It is studied alongside 2 other GCSEs or another Level 2 BTEC. It provides an opportunity for students to focus on the development of personal, learning and thinking skills, and gain wider skills in a sporting context. Students are awarded grades of Pass, Merit or Distinction. Two units are externally assessed, the others are internally set and assessed. The majority of students on this course will take part in team sports as an extra-curricular activity.
