Superb Supported Internship student Damien Cast has gained employment with The Gourmet Burger Kitchen restaurant based on the Boardwalk at Lakeside shopping centre.

Damien, who attends our SEND and Foundation Learning centre at Havering Sixth Form campus, worked extremely hard to get a job – applying for many positions before being offered his current role in the restaurant.

He said: “I love working there. I do all sorts of things like clearing the tables and tidying up and I also sometimes serve customers, which I really enjoy.”

Enterprise and Work Placement Coordinator Jayne Hart, who has supported Damien on the course, recently nominated him for a student award, saying: “Damien showed a real drive to gain employment, applying for many positions and never giving up. With the help of our team he has now gained employment with The Gourmet Burger Kitchen and works at least 25 to 30 hours a week and still attends college for two days.

“He has proved that with some help from our dedicated job coach team and a lot of determination, you really can achieve your goals.”
