Understanding our admissions process
Becoming a student at New City College is simple once you know which stage of the process you are in. From exploring your options to stepping onto campus for your first day, each stage plays a different role in getting you started. Here is everything you need to know about the differences between registering your interest, submitting an application, and officially enrolling with us.
Sign up or Register
- When: You can sign up or register at any point during the year.
- What it is: Registering your interest to receive updates, further information, course details, or book a spot at an Open Day.
- Why do it: Keeps you informed about upcoming deadlines and campus events.
- Important to know: Signing up lets us know you’re interested, but it is not an application and does not reserve a spot on a course.
Apply
- When: Applications for our courses are open from November to July. If you are 16-18, we recommend applying by 31 January to join our Priority Applicants Club.
- What it is: Submitting an official application form online before the academic year starts.
- Why do it: Generates a conditional offer and pre-approves you for entry requirements; unlocks personalised careers advice to make sure the course fits your long-term goals; and gives you priority access on enrolment days as some campuses reserve their first enrolment days strictly for applicants.
- Important to know: Applying prepares everything for a smooth start, but application is not enrolment.
Enrol
- When: Enrolment usually happens the month before, or just before your course is due to start. Our main enrolment for courses that start in Septemeber happens in August. For some adult courses we enrol throughout the year.
- What it is: The final step that makes you an official student. It must be completed in person, on campus.
- Why do it: Confirms your place on your course, gives you your student ID card, and provides all details for your first day.
- Important to know: Enrolment is the only process that secures your place on a course.
Can I enrol without applying first?
Yes. While applying in advance is the best way to secure your spot and avoid delays, we also accept walk-in enrolments on a first-come, first-served basis, where there are places.
If you did not get round to applying before applications closed, simply come directly to campus during an enrolment event. We will ask a few extra questions on the day to set up your profile and get you officially enrolled.
