GCSE Average Points Score: 4.3, Grade 4 English Language GCSE, Grade 4 Maths GCSE, GCSE Art & Design 4 or Portfolio

Course information

This course will offer you the opportunity to develop the conceptual, technical and critical skills required to succeed in the creative industries. You will become an innovative and experimental artist/maker and critical thinker. You will be encouraged to explore innovative ways of using a range of media and processes, including print-making, sculpture, photography and time-based media.

You can expect to:

  • Build an individualised portfolio of wide ranging practical work
  • Explore a variety of media and develop an ability to express observations and ideas in visual form
  • Participate in trips to galleries and work with professional artists
  • Develop analytical skills and knowledge of critical and contemporary issues in Art and Design

The course is designed to be flexible and suit the needs of the individual student. It may be studied alongside any of our creative courses, including Photography, Graphics or any of the Creative Media courses. Analytical courses such as Philosophy, Sociology and Government and Politics are also complementary.

After induction, you will undertake a range of individualised projects focussing on areas that are of personal interest to you.

What Can This Course Lead To

Progress to university, further study or employment.

This course provides students with a portfolio for progression to Foundation Diploma and degree level courses in a wide range of creative arts and design subjects.  We have links with Central St Martins, London School of Fashion, Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Arts, Middlesex University, Ravensbourne and the University of East London. Fine Art can lead to a wide variety of careers including graphic design, fashion and textiles, architecture and theatre or interior design.
