Access to Higher Education

Have you always wanted to go to university?

An Access to Higher Education Diploma is the perfect alternative to A Levels and BTEC Diplomas for students aged over 21+ and is designed to help you go to university.

Studying for an Access to Higher Education qualification requires commitment, stamina and determination. It’s an intensive study for a period of 34 weeks and requires you to attend the college for three days a week, with further independent study at home.

Access courses combine subject specialisms at Level 3 with study skills and are designed to prepare you for university level study. The course will give you the confidence and skills you need to be successful at university.

Ilyas, who wanted to work in childcare, volunteered as an assistant childcare worker while studying a foundation degree in Early Childhood Studies at New City College before progressing to London Metropolitan University for one year to complete a degree in Early Childcare Studies.

Maryam, with no formal maths or English qualifications, studied on New City College’s one year Access to Science course. She is now studying Biomedicine at the University of Westminster.

Rejual, studied HND in Applied Science, progressed to university for a final year to gain a degree and is now completing a Masters degree in Microbiology at the Birkbeck University of London.

Anna, a Personal Assistant, decided on a career change and studied on the New City College Access to Health Professions course. She is currently training to be an adult nurse at King’s College, London.

Imran, studied Access to Science and went on to study Biomedicine at Warwick University and is now completing a Masters degree at Imperial College (one of the world’s top-rated universities).
