Celebrations for exceptional students at Campus Awards Evenings

Outstanding students who have shown tenacity, determination and compassion for others were honoured at New City College end-of-year Campus Award Evenings.

Presentations for individual students took place at Epping Forest, Hackney, Redbridge, Havering Sixth Form, Ardleigh Green and Tower Hamlets campuses.

Students, their families and college staff attended the celebrations to hear heartfelt citations read out in honour of the worthy winners, who had been nominated by their teachers.

Awards and certificates for categories such as Student of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Contribution to the College, Academic Achievement and Outstanding Community Involvement were handed out to some of our wonderful students.

A very special award – The Jodie Chesney Award in memory of the Havering Sixth Form student who was tragically murdered in 2019 – was presented to Klaudija Lukosiunaite by Jodie’s aunt and uncle, Karen and Rob Chesney.

Audiences were treated to refreshments or given goody bags and were entertained by Performing Arts dancers and singers. There were also inspiring congratulations videos from former students who have gone on to be successful in their chosen careers. Their messages encouraged the winners to take every opportunity they could in life – and not be afraid to step out of their comfort zone.

During the evening, Principals and Deputy Principals spoke of their pride at being able to hand out trophies to such exceptional young people, especially considering the challenges of the past year, and wished them all the best of luck as they moved on to exciting futures.
