Fashion firm offers fantastic work experience opportunity

Creative students were given an insight into the fashion industry when owners of the Members Only Clothing Company came into college to give a presentation and offer work experience.

Scott Reeve and his daughter Lauren run the fashion business from their base in Rainham and create items from scratch for popular retailers such as Pretty Little Thing, ASOS, Boohoo, River Island, Top Shop, JD Sports and Primark.

Scott, who has built the thriving brand from being a stallholder in Romford Market and working out of his garage, said they were always looking to develop new talent – and the college had provided many great employees in the past.

He said: “We are offering students the chance to come and work in a busy environment where they will see the creation of a garment from start to finish. We have had students from the college before and have been very impressed.”

He told Fashion and Art & Design students at the Ardleigh Green campus that they would be able to work on their own products, create mood boards, use software such as CAD, illustrator and photoshop, and would be able to collaborate with designers and researchers to work on briefs from major online retailers.

The garments created at MOCC are made into samples at factories in Turkey, Pakistan and Bangladesh and then pitched to merchandisers and buyers.

Scott, who travels to worldwide fashion events such as Milan, Barcelona, LA and Paris during normal times, said: “Unlike many businesses at the moment, fashion is booming – particularly the online sector. But anyone who wants to work in the industry needs a lot of work experience. What we are offering will give any student a really good grounding in how it all works.”
