Learning Companies | New City College

Our Learning Companies offer students the opportunity to manage a business, as a central part of their studies, and to earn real money!

We run a number of businesses across our curriculum, all with the aim of giving students real experience of working with real clients, delivering real projects and making money.

You, the student, run the companies, with support from your teachers, but you get great work experience and can put it on your CV, to stand out from others.

Blue Orange

We are Blueorange and we are a visual communication learning company located at New City College, offering design services and UAL accredited courses in visual communication.

Blue Orange is run by our junior designers and led by our experienced industry practitioners. We work with real client briefs giving our junior designers invaluable experience in industry practice.

Our team has worked with companies such as Transport for London, Ilford FC, NHS, Redbridge Council, Lottery Heritage Fund and many more.

RedTech

RedTech, will give you a unique experience of the commercial world and help prepare you for the fast-growing world of digital technology. Developing your employability skills and preparing you for the industry is at the forefront of our goals and objectives.

Students will be taught by staff who are experts in their fields; who have invaluable industrial experience. Our computing students work on real client briefs, giving them practical experience with industry and fully prepare them to move onto an array of future career opportunities, or for progression onto Higher Education.

We also provide support in providing work experience or placement opportunities. Like many of our students, you could go on to gain permanent employment with your placement organisation.

Career Ready

Would you like exclusive access to internships with some of the UK’s leading employers, one-to-one mentoring by business professionals and trips to influential organisations?

New City College’s Career Ready programme is open to ambitious students aged 16-18 who are studying towards a Level 3 Business Studies qualification; mixing a challenging curriculum with real-life experiences designed to inspire students to reach their full potential.

Being part of Career Ready provides young people with access to:

- A summer internship/ work placement during the first year
- One-to-one mentoring by business professionals
- Participation in employer-led seminars
- Visits to influential organisations
- A residential trip in the second year of the programme
- Regular networking meetings with business professionals
- Support and advice throughout the course

This programme is operated in partnership with Career Ready UK, a registered charity that leads and supports the movement of over 1000 employers and over 120 schools and colleges, working together to raise the aspirations of 16 to 18-year-olds.

Jack in The Box

Welcome to Jack in the Box Theatre Company, a unique and exciting platform where you will make your very own theatre productions for live audiences. You will have access to fantastic facilities studying in your own purpose-built, state of the art modern theatre and will benefit from being taught by tutors who have wealth of knowledge and industry experience.

They will share their experiences and skills with you and prepare you for the progress into higher education or the first steps of your creative career. They will work closely with you to refine your talent and help you achieve your ambition.

We maintain a close working relationship with RADA (The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and students have access to a variety of activities and workshops on offer through them. You will take part in a series of workshops, seminars, rehearsals, talks, trips and lectures which will hone your craft and develop you as a performer.

Rouge Academy

Welcome to Rouge Catering, our standalone learning company within

New City College Redbridge offering our trainees a completely original unique learning environment and experience.

The department uses a delivery model of a real-life learning company called “Rouge Chef.” This creates a professional and inclusive environment that emphasizes employer engagement and creates learning programmes that are dynamic and highly relevant to the business needs for now and in the future.

You will be learning from the best here, our outstanding Hospitality and Catering teaching team have been recognised nationally and were named ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes.’ They were awarded a Gold Plato at the prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards 2017.

Students will work in and run our Rouge restaurant and cater for private customers as well as earning competitive rates for any work completed outside timetabled hours.
