This degree offers a blend of academic and vocational study within an early year’s work placement that will provide you with the skills to become an effective practitioner working with young children. On completion of the Foundation degree graduates are able to either embark upon their career immediately or continue their studies in a related Honours Top-up Degree.

On the Foundation Degree programme your study will be closely linked to your experience in the workplace. This is a classroom-based course incorporating a work placement.

For full-time students, the course is studied over a period of two years. Attendance is one day per week in College, plus 2 days per week in placement. The course will take place at our Ardleigh Green campus.

ll of our teaching staff are experienced professionals in the field of education. All students are allocated a personal tutor who will be your first point of communication should you have any queries or concerns. Regular 1:1 sessions will take place within the classroom where there will be the opportunity to discuss your course and progress.
This course is taught via a combination of lectures, seminars, workplace practice, presentations, case studies, and group workshops. NCC’s Higher Education teaching team also delivers a series of study skills sessions on degree-level research and academic writing to all first-year students.
When not in scheduled lecturers and seminars, students are expected to continue learning through independent self-study.
This involves reading relevant literature, working on individual and group projects, and undertaking research in preparation for coursework and exams.
Assessment is via a combination of practical exams and coursework, with an assessment breakdown of 10% practical exams and 90% coursework. There are no written exams on this Foundation Degree.
