A minimum age of 18 years is a requirement.
You will need a relevant Foundation Degree or evidence of holding 240 HE credits.
You must be employed in a professional educational role which may be paid employment or voluntary.
Students may progress from:
- Teaching Assistants (Primary and Secondary sector) progressing from an OUVS Foundation Degree.
- Early Years Practitioners progressing from an OUVS Foundation Degree.
All students will be expected to have GCSE Maths and English Language qualifications at grade C or above (grade 4 on new framework). Please note, the college reserves the right to accept evidence of working towards a maths qualification upon completion of a successful interview.
You must have a current DBS.
You will be invited to attend an interview and assessment session. This session will include a written test, group exercise and individual interview through which an assessment will be made of your potential for the course.

The BA (Hons) Education and Professional Practice is subject to validation by the Open University. It is unique in its approach to delivering this qualification as it brings into contact teaching practitioners and professionals from different sectors of education who will work together to explore key concepts of the education system within their own working context.
You will consider the effectiveness of the management and leadership team at your organisation, as well as the innovative practices of your institution. Alongside this, you will study the importance, theory and models of transitions and conduct in-depth research for your dissertation. This qualification is a classroom-based course in which students are expected to reflect upon and actively incorporate their professional practice into their studies.
You will study a selection of modules:
- Professionalism, Expertise & Accountability in Educational Contexts 20 credits
- Effective Management, Leadership and Administration 20 credits
- Developing Innovative Practice within a Learning and Organisational Context 20 credits
- Managing Transitions in Education 20 credits
- Dissertation 40 credits
For full-time students, the course is studied over a period of one year for 30 weeks. Attendance is 1 day per week plus attendance in the workplace. The course will take place at our Ardleigh Green campus.

The BA (Hons) Education and Professional Practice is a level 6 top-up degree programme that seeks to connect teaching practitioners and professionals from different sectors of education who will work together to interrogate key concepts of the education system and consolidate understanding within their own contexts.
The programme follows an intellectual and rigorous study of educational questions; designed to broaden theoretical perspectives of the role and purpose of education and educational processes across a wide range of contexts.
