Entry requirements

Applicants will need to:

  • Hold an honours degree or equivalent.
  • Have GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
  • Demonstrate professional suitability in motivation and enthusiasm for the subject and their career.
  • Teach and/or support students in an educational setting
  • Attend an interview and complete a successful entry assessment with the programme team.


Course Detail

The MA in Advanced Educational Practice at NCC Ardleigh Green provides you with critical insights into key educational issues that will enable you to develop intellectual, practical, and transferable skills related to current educational practices.

The course provides a selective approach to the wider perspectives of education and work-based learning through modules focused on cross-cultural perspectives, educational research, and reflective practice.

The programme encourages healthy debate and discussion, building in-depth and advanced knowledge and understanding across a variety of sectors, taking in key aspects of learning through educational theory and policy, strategic methodology, and whole-organisational practices beyond the role of teaching.

The MA in Advanced Educational Practice is also classed as professional practice master as it is both vocational and academic highlighting the cross-disciplinary nature of the degree. New City College has registered with the Office for Students.

Course Structure

All the modules on this course are compulsory and worth either 30 or 60 credits each. In the first year, you will complete 3 modules (90 credits) and 2 modules in the second year (90 credits). Successful completion of all the modules will lead to the award of the Level 7 Masters Degree.

  • Exploring Issues and Themes in Education (30 credits)
  • Supporting the holistic development of learners (30 credits)
  • Advanced Research Design (30 credits)

MA in Advanced Educational Practice Year 2

  • Measuring learning – Assessment and feedback (30 credits)
  • Dissertation (60 credits)

Awarding Body

This course is validated by Bath Spa University

  • Assessment Criteria

    You will be assessed in all the modules that you study.  The programme team has designed a range of assessment methods to test your learning and development as you progress through the programme.

    Assessment will take place during or immediately on completion of the teaching of each module.  Assessment methods for this qualification are varied and will usually involve submitted assignments/in-programme assessments, research projects and reports, reflective self-evaluation and dissertation.

The gaining of a Master’s qualification will put participants ‘ahead of the game’ when applying to teach on Higher Education courses or for promotion within the education sector.
