Library FAQs

Library Services Frequently Asked Questions

Is there somewhere I can work when I am not in a lesson?

Every campus has a library and learning centre that provide study space, PCs and MACs for student use, printing facilities, books for study and recreational reading, a stationery shop and friendly experienced staff who can help you make the most of the resources and facilities available and help with IT skills and research skills.

Can I access library books online?

Yes, many of our resources are available 24/7 via the VLE and we have a large collection on eBooks, audio books and online resources that you can access from any device. When you are not in college you can use the library app to request books for collection from the library or renew books you have on loan.

Is the library free?

There is no charge for borrowing books, accessing online resources or using computers or study space. Stationery is sold at cost price. Most books can be borrowed for up to six weeks and there is a small charge of 10p per day for items not returned on time.

When is the library open?

All libraries open at 8.45am during term time. Closing times vary according to site. Some sites are also open during the Easter holiday and summer half term holiday.

Can I use any library or only the one where I attend classes?

Yes. You can use any library in the New City College group so if there is a campus nearer to your home you can visit that library to study and borrow books if you prefer. If you borrow books they must be returned to the site you borrowed them from.
