Students from New City College - Tower Hamlets, were inspired and moved, after hearing a motivational story at this years' Female Voice event, where they embraced the opportunity to meet a record-breaking, real life hero.
The Female Voice conference, held annually at the Excel Arena, London, helps women build confidence in order to feel empowered and find equality and peace in a balanced world. Featuring talks and workshops, students from New City College - Tower Hamlets, had the opportunity to get involved in activities and have some fun, while taking home some important lessons.
The day's key theme was "I matter and I can do it", and the speakers based their sessions around how to empower students to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams.
CEO and entrepreneur Rianna Price, whose uplifting session centred on how sports contribute to character development and the essentials in life, delivered the opening session.
The events guest speaker was record-breaking, polar explorer and renowned international speaker, Ann Daniels. Ann is one of the first women in history to reach the north and south poles, as part of an all-women team. Ann shared her story of being a mother of four who has battled through 3000 miles of snow in over 400 days in total, in temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius.
The day progressed with lessons on self-defence from Krav Maga Global, teaching the group how to avoid troublesome situations, but also how to counter attacks safely if needed. The range of workshops covered topics such as gang culture, taboo talk, using social media safely and talks from two former students who gave advice on life after college and making the right choices.
Susan Clark, Senior Curriculum Manager for Health and Care said:
"We host this event each year and yet again, it has proven invaluable to our learners. There is so much to take away from it all and it is great to see the students look up to the speakers as positive role models. The stories told were inspirational and I am confident the students left the event feeling positive about their future."Back
