A talented graphic design student at Redbridge College has successfully designed the corporate identity for one of London's largest further education colleges.
Ashley Butcher, 22, from Essex, is currently studying for an HND in Graphic Design at the college and his design concept was chosen to be the corporate identity of New City College, the new name for the merged east London colleges of Tower Hamlets College and Hackney Community College. Redbridge College will merge with New City College on 1 April 2017. His identity design will now be used by the College on its marketing materials, websites, letterheads and business cards as well as on letters to students and parents.
"My ambition is to be a graphic designer and a project like this is really great to add to my design portfolio. It was a great experience to work on and to know that my design will be the new identity for the College is amazing."
Gerry McDonald, Group Principal and CEO of New City College said:
"I am really pleased and excited with the quality of the final identity and appreciative of the hard work put it into this project by Ashley and his teachers. The new identity will really help New City College stand out amongst its competitors and it reflects the great young talents at colleges around the country."
Mr McDonald was very keen for students to have the opportunity to design the new identity and the brief was given to design students at Redbridge College's learning company Blue Orange. This is the college's creative 'business', where students are able to work on real client briefs as part of their studies in an environment similar to a real design studio and use these projects to build up their portfolio to help them progress to university or into employment. Other faculties at Redbridge also have similar innovative learning companies which help students become career ready.
New City College will be the second largest college in London, and the eighth largest in England, with campuses in Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Redbridge. It will have more than 13,000 students studying a wide range of academic and professional courses. The new legal name of the college was approved by the government and came into effect from February 1 2017.
