Student Union Host Business Breakfast at OKN1

Speakers from the City and professional business owners were hosted by NCC Hackney's Student Union members at OKN1, the College's student and professional restaurant on Hoxton Street. Business and Computing students had the opportunity to listen, talk and ask questions to members of the Federation of Small Businesses.

The college student union also presented their environmentally friendly newspaper bags, created as part of the campus ,Friends of the Earth, project. This entrepreneurial project aims to help reduce plastic pollution, beat climate change and other amazing causes.

The attendees from the Federation of Small Businesses (FBS) included: Grace Graham - FSB Diversity & Inclusion Lead for London and Director of Keep It Simple Training Company Ltd, Rowena Howie - FSB Policy Chair for London and Director of Revival Retro, Rachel Barham - FSB Membership Advisor, Laura Timm - Head Projects and Anthony Kingsley - Inspiration Travel.

Each member spoke to students about their own successes of starting and running start-up companies, the importance of standing out to potential employers and how they can achieve this when looking for work and also offer some advice about succeeding as a business owner.

Grace Graham said about the Business Breakfast

At the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) we want to do more to engage with young entrepreneurs, and this event was a great way to start. It was incredibly energising for us (business owners) and we loved sharing our own experiences, whether good or bad, about starting and being business. It was great to see so many young people who were engaged and attending with their already prepared questions. Thank you for inviting us to connect with your students, and I'm sure there will be more opportunities for us to support your students and college in the future!
