Business Studies students from New City College, Redbridge campus enjoyed four days of business masterclasses and workplace visits during their trip to Lisbon.
BTEC Level 3 Business Students visited multi-national insurance company AIG Europe, where they found out about career opportunities and spoke to staff to experience a day in the life of various roles available within the sector. They also covered topics such as cyber risks, fraud and environmental risks during their masterclass.
The students are part of a Career Ready programme, which offers business students unique opportunities such as summer internships in leading global companies including JP Morgan and Bank of England to name a few, as well as being assigned to a business mentor, peer mentoring, workplace visits to prestigious organisations, masterclasses, networking meetings, business challenges and a residential trip to see how businesses operate from an international perspective.
The Career Ready programme is one of many work-based programmes at New City College, which is designed to transform young people's lives by inspiring them to reach their full potential and develop the necessary skills to find employment in a competitive environment.
However, it was not all work and no play; the group had time to explore Lisbon's culture and history with visits to key tourist attractions and neighbourhoods.
Siobhan Fitsiou, Head of Recruitment and Retention who accompanied the students on the trip said:
This has been a valuable experience for our students. Not only have they learnt about business careers, they have seen how large corporations operate from an international perspective, which is important for their understanding of business.
New City College, Redbridge Campus invests heavily on the emphasis of their students business and entrepreneurial skills through their Career Ready programme, and vocational learning companies, which help students acquire invaluable enterprising skills
