NCC Hackney's Basketball Academy have once again showed elite skills on the court, making it to the national final held at Nottingham University.
The Hackney team qualified for the Association of Colleges national championships by becoming regional champs earlier in the year. During the intense weekend of fast-paced championship games, Hackney beat college and academy teams from West Anglia, Loughborough and Gateshead to get through to the final, where they played Stoke on Trent in a close, nail-biting game.
Proud NCC?s Sports Academy Manager Sonia Stephens said: "All students on the Hackney team represented the college to the highest level and did a fantastic job. We are the second best in the country and that is force to be reckoned with." And in tribute to the staff who supported them, she added: "A big shout out to our great coaches, Andrea Boreland and Vince Macaulay." Macaulay is also head coach of the London Lions professional basketball team.
Ever striving for the win, the team did come away with a gold, for the three on three, a demanding discipline in the international game.
New City College's Basketball Academy is affiliated to London's Pro Basketball team, London Lions. Players benefit from professional coaching, playing alongside professional players and have featured several times in the Copper Box on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
