College Celebrates Successful Year of Student Successes With Many Securing Places at Leading Universities and Employment

Students at New City College Redbridge have delivered another successful year of high achievement, with many students achieving high grades in their BTEC diplomas and securing places at leading universities and employment.

The college, which has campuses in Chadwell Heath and in Ilford, focuses on offering students the opportunity to study vocational qualifications such as BTECs and giving all students a career focused pathway.

College principal Janet Smith, celebrated the success saying:

I am really proud of all of our students and the great success they have achieved. The next stage of their journey is going to be exciting and it shows that studying a BTEC qualification does not hold you back from achieving a place at university or a good job.

Students from across the curriculum have done well, with highlights including:

Abhishek Joshi proved that studying a BTEC qualification made perfect sense for his career and university ambitions! Abhishek Joshi has studied at New City College Redbridge over the past three years. Completing the Level 2 Diploma in Science and Technology at a Distinction when he also successfully passed his GCSE English language.

Abhishek then went on to pass the BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Medical Pathway) with the top grade of triple distinction* to enter the University of Surrey to study a degree in Biomedical Science.

While he was here at New City College Redbridge he had the opportunity and was successful to enter the Nuffield Bursary Awards where he had the opportunity to work with the scientists at University of East London.

New City College Redbridge has provided me with a clear career pathway and helped me to progress to university to study for a career within the medical field.

Chris Usina studied an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Social Sciences and Humanities secured a place at the University of Manchester to study a degree in politics and sociology and has proved that the BTEC qualification is highly valued and accepted as an entrance qualification to university.

Successful students also studying BTEC courses progressed to full time employment within leading organisations.

Former Hospitality and Catering, Professional Cookery student Janaki Ramesh is now enjoying her role at Japanese restaurant Nobu, renowned for the famous celebrity faces that walk through their doors. My time at New City College Redbridge prepared me for a career in a bustling and lively industry that I am truly passionate about.

Special Effects Theatrical media make-up student Gabriela Heath has been busy carving out a successful career in the TV and movie industry and worked on a promotional event in London in relation to the Walking Dead series. Enrolment is taking place now with the college open today, Saturday 1 September 10am-1pm and all of next week at its Chadwell Heath campus for young people and adults and the Ilford campus for ESOL only.
