Love Our Colleges: New City College film explores the passion behind the campaign

Recently further education colleges and their students across the country joined forces to raise awareness of the great work that colleges do and the funding challenges faced by the sector.

New City College embraced the opportunity. The college's campuses were closed for one day to allow students and staff to really make some noise about the issues. They held meetings with stakeholders and contacted industry leaders, Members of Parliament and organisations to help to spread the word, to encourage the Government to raise college funding to sustainable levels.

Inspired by the campaign and their college's own actions, students and staff in the computing department at New City College's Redbridge Campus created their own Love our Colleges film. They researched the issues and interviewed the college's senior staff, MPs and other high profile individuals.

Senior Curriculum Manager Russell Hasnat commented:

Colleges create opportunities for people from all walks of life, supporting them to develop skills, achieve qualifications and progress to great things. This can only continue if the sector is funded sufficiently. My students and I are so inspired by the Love our Colleges campaign that we decided to capture its passion through producing this film. Feel free to share our film, to help to spread the word!

The Love our Colleges campaign continues to gather pace. A debate has been held in Parliament, the issue of further education funding has been raised several times in Prime Minister's Questions and MPs have highlighted the issues in the national media. The funding issues are, however, yet to be addressed.

The computing students who created this film undertake industry projects alongside their study through their own learning company: RedTech offers a range of computing services to companies and individuals. To find out more, please send an email to
