Students embrace opportunity to work on set during profession movie production

It's just another day at college for a group of students who had the amazing opportunity of working with a professional film production company during their regular day at college.

Students studying media and performing arts at New City College Redbridge were ecstatic when they heard news that they would have the chance to support production company 'It's a Lot Ltd' as they filmed their new short film 'Against All Odds'.

The company chose New City College Redbridge campus as the perfect setting for some of the key scenes in their movie and used the colleges industry standard Box theatre, and corridors and classrooms to film.

Understanding that the college has media and performing arts students they were kind enough to allow performing arts students to feature as extras and media students to help with set design and shadow the production team, offering them valuable industry experience.

Against All Odds is a story following the journey of a young man trying to complete his history studies course while also developing his passion as a grime artist.

Filming on the day went extremely well, although it was long and hard with breaks few and far between. The students experienced the pace of work and enjoyed learning about the story and engaged with the production team, gaining advice about the film production industry.

Sherine George, Senior Curriculum Manager of the Creative Industries said:

This was a fantastic opportunity for our students and they really enjoyed working with such a talented cast and crew. At New City College we give students work experience and link their learning to the real world skills they need to make a positive start in their careers. The students cherished and enjoyed the experience of working with professionals and gained a better understanding of a real day on set.

The media and performing arts students are looking forward to seeing the finished piece and feel honoured to have been able to contribute towards a professional production.
