New City College Gains Silver Award In Latest Teaching And Excellence National Results

Students and teachers at New City College are celebrating today after the college gained a prestigious silver Teaching and Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) award in this year's provider results published by the Office for Students.

This silver rating recognises that students on higher education courses at New City College achieve excellent outcomes, including progression into employment or further study as well as the high levels of student satisfaction.

New City College was praised by the Office for Students for encouraging a teaching environment of continuous enhancement, providing high quality digital and physical teaching resources for students and for having strong links with employers and support for employability through a range of innovative practices, which enabled students to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding highly valued by employers.

Gerry McDonald, CEO and Principal of New City College said:

It is fantastic to receive a TEF silver award. This recognises all the efforts our teaching staff put in to really make a difference to the quality of learning for our higher education students. To be ranked alongside some well-known universities is a great reward and reassurance for students that they will receive a good level of educational experience with us.

Nicola Dandridge, chief executive of the Office for Students said:

All students, no matter what, where or how they study, deserve high-quality teaching which helps them to achieve good outcomes in higher education and leaves them well prepared for life after graduation. Students consistently say that teaching quality is central in determining whether they receive value for money.

TEF assessments highlight examples of high-quality teaching and student outcomes across a diverse range of universities, colleges and other higher education providers, as well as where provision could improve.

The total number of higher education providers across the UK now in receipt of a TEF award is 283 with 76 providers receiving a gold award, 132 silver and 61 bronze.

To be considered for a TEF rating, providers must meet demanding national quality requirements. TEF measures excellence above and beyond this, with providers awarded a rating of gold, silver or bronze or a provisional award where there is not enough data for a full assessment.
