Make-Up Artists Compete For Chance To Be Crowned A World Champion

Three highly creative make-up artists have shown they have the talents to take on the world after they were shortlisted to compete in the WorldSkills UK finals, and face competition from the UK's top creative make-up students and apprentices for a place in Team UK 2022.

Astrid Evelyn Graban and Daisy Carter who are creative media make-up students at New City College's Redbridge campus and Ellie Mai Tucker, a commercial media make-up student at the college's Epping Forest campus have successfully made it through two competitive rounds.

The winners of the national final, will be selected to represent Team UK at the WorldSkills Finals 2022, to be held in Shanghai, China.

Team UK is made up of the best and brightest students and apprentices from across the UK home nations.

Janet Smith, Principal for New City College Redbridge and Epping Forest campuses said:

A massive congratulations to all three students. It is an incredibly fantastic achievement to make it to the UK finals and showcase their talents and creativity on a national stage. If they are successful they will proceed into Team UK to be trained for WorldSkills 2022 in Shanghai.

The national finals take place at the NEC in Birmingham from 21-23 November and all three students will compete in the creative media make-up category against other students and apprentices from across the whole of the UK for a coveted place on Team UK 2022.

At each stage of the competition, the students have been set creative themes by the judges, which has seen them create make-up designs based upon these themes.

Astrid and Daisy focused on body painting on the theme of the earth and water and Ellie focused on 'En Vogue'.

World Skills UK designs and runs skills competitions to accelerate young people's development and works with colleges to embed the right skills to meet the UK's talent pipeline needs in new areas of economic and technical innovation.

Competitors are challenged to perform to exceptionally high standards, bringing back their hard-won know-how to directly benefit their employers and peers.

Team UK 2019 is now heading to Kazan in Russia for the WorldSkills finals this month.
