A level Drama and Theatre is a creative course which is intended to develop your knowledge and enjoyment of live theatre performance as both a performer and an audience member. It is a combination of both practical and academic work skills. If you enjoy performing, exploring ideas and reading, you will find the course challenging and rewarding.
The course aims to develop your skills in making, performing, interpreting and understanding Drama and Theatre. You will learn how to make the connections between the theoretical aspects of the subject and practical exploration. The course also develops your understanding of how social, cultural and historical events have shaped the development of drama and theatre. You will also explore how to create performances using 21st Century skills and approaches, and experience how various roles within theatre work together. Some of the assessment processes will be familiar if you have already studied drama at GCSE level.

It is recommended that you study A Level English Literature with the Drama and Theatre course as they complement each other well. We have excellent links with professional theatres in London through which you will see live theatre and participate in workshops with industry professionals. We also have a number of past students working in the profession who also regularly visit and contribute to your development as a performer.
Progress to university, further study or employment.
The majority of students taking this course will be aiming to progress on to further study in the subject either at drama school or university. The course is also suitable for those intending to pursue a career that requires strong emotional intelligence, people skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
