Peter Bakare

Peter Bakare represented Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics playing Volleyball, and is now a great ambassador for the sport.

He was originally a basketball player and represented Havering Sixth Form College at the London Youth Games where he was noticed and encouraged to pick up volleyball at the age of 18.

Formerly from Canning Town and a student at St Bonaventure’s School for Boys, Peter left College in 2008 after studying the Art & Design Foundation Diploma and A Levels in Media, Graphics and Maths.

He went to Sheffield Hallam University where he studied Animation and became involved in scriptwriting. He has since worked as a scriptwriter for Channel 4 drama Skins and has also acted and performed stand-up comedy. He became a Social Media Manager and a motivational speaker working with young people.

He attended the College’s Sports Presentation Awards Evening in May 2018, giving a superb, inspiring talk to students and their guests about his journey from life as a youngster growing up in Canning Town to fulfilling his Olympic dreams to his recent success as a sports ambassador and speaker.

He also made an inspirational video congratulating students at New City College’s Student Achievement Awards online ceremony in January 2021 and is a great supporter of the college.
