Our Foundation and Supported Learning is a programme designed to help young people with learning difficulties and or disabilities to find employment.
At New City College, Learners will be able to choose from a variety of subjects leading to:
Skills for Work
Supported Internship programme
These are full time (four days a week) and include
- Employability Skills
- Independent Living Skills
- English and Maths
- Work and Experience
- Customer Service
- Preparing students for other courses
The course can last for up to two years.
What Teaching and Support will be available?
Students' timetables are tailored to meet their individual needs.
Lessons are taught by experienced, specialist teachers and are supported by learning Mentors who can also offer support at break and lunch times ( but students will also learn the skills they need to become independent).
There are further opportunities to study English and maths in small,supported groups and to take an externally accredited qualification.
- Must be 16-24 years old
- Must have an Education Health and Care Plan
- Must really want to work and be prepared to try hard
- Must be prepared to try different work opportunities
- Minimum of Entry level English and maths skills
- Must be able to undertake own personal care
What is a Supported Internship?
A Supported Internship is a study programme aimed at young people aged 16-24 who have an Education Health Care Plan who want to work and may need extra support to do so.
