On the 15th of February 2024 the students at our Havering sixth form campus held a music concert to show their creativity and talent.

The concert kicked off with A level Music students presenting pieces from their upcoming recitals. There was a delightful blend of classical compositions, jazz improvisations and popular tunes. The programme featured works by well-known composers such as Mozart, Debussy alongside modern hits from artists like Nina Simone and David Guetta. This diverse selection reflected the student’s dedication to understanding various musical genres and styles.

Following the classical segment, the concert transitioned into an electrifying display of band performances. From rock anthems to smooth jazz renditions and infectious pop melodies. The sets displayed their versatility and creativity on stage. The audience was left with each performance leaving them with a lasting impression.

Chris Donnelly Teacher at NCC said “I am looking forward to hearing the lower sixth A Level students perform in the concert as some of them will be performing for the first time since coming to college. I am also looking forward to the BTEC music students perform the final piece ‘Somebody to love’, for which they will be joined by a group of BTEC Performing arts students in a choir.”

As the evening progressed, the spotlight shined on the BTEC Music performance students, who delivered a heart-warming set list with the love theme in celebration of Valentine’s Day. The range included iconic love songs and soulful ballads of Amy Winehouse to the upbeat rhythms of ABBA and Bob Marley.

The highlights of their setlist were classics like ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen’, ‘Lovefool’ by The Cardigans and ‘It must be love’ by Madness which resonated with all that were in the room. Moreover ‘Could you be loved’ by Bob Marley and ‘I believe in a thing called love’ by The Darkness added a contemporary flair to the performance.

Overall, the music concert was an unforgettable evening of musical excellence and artistic expression and everyone is looking forward to the next one. The students delivered and should be extremely proud of themselves.
