The NCC library service provides access to a wide range of resources to support your learning.

  • Books

    The library stocks a varied selection of books to support your learning, including wider reading and support material for taught courses, and study and revision guides. We also have an extensive collection of material to help with personal and professional development and employability, careers information and advice on applying for University, mental health and well-being, and recreational reading.

  • Ebooks

    We provide access to a wide range of Ebooks via Proquest and Browns VLE books. You can search for a specific title or a general topic using EBSCO Discovery Service.

    Ebooks are fully searchable and downloadable on most devices, and it is easy to bookmark, print and save relevant content. If you would like help and support in accessing and using ebooks ‘ask a librarian’, watch the video guide, look at our help and guidance pages on EBSCO Discovery Service, or call into your library and learning centre and speak to a member of staff.

    In addition to the owned eBook repositories, students and staff may also make use of various free eBook platforms to support their teaching and learning. These include:

    • Doab The Directory of Open Access Books is a community-driven discovery service that indexes and provides access to over 40,000 scholarly, peer-reviewed open access books and helps users to find trusted open access, book publishers.
    • Project Muse offers open access (OA) books, journals, and digital humanities work from several distinguished university presses, scholarly societies, and independent not-for-profit academic publishers.
    • Google Books (not all Google Books are available in full text).
    • Project Gutenberg (out of copyright classic texts)
  • Audiobooks

    Access to free online audiobooks is available via the Wheelers audiobook platform. Ask a member of library staff for details.

  • Online resources

    Our online resources are accessible via the EBSCO Discovery Service and provide access to thousands of books, journals and multi-media content to support your learning. The extensive range of academic and vocational resources covers every aspect of the curriculum and includes:

  • Magazines and journals

    We have a wide range of online and print journals for recreational reading and to support the curriculum. Please ask a member of staff at your campus library or learning resource centre for more information.

  • Planet eStream

    Planet eStream is a Unified Video Platform for education, featuring live streaming, digital signage, interactive learning tools, lesson and lecture capture, TV and radio recording and direct access to 2 million TV and radio programmes.

  • Blended learning consortium

    New City College is part of the Blended Learning Consortium which facilitates access to a wide range of resources currently covering 70 subject areas and over 2,200 individual study modules providing over 1,600 hours of interactive content.
