New City College is thrilled to announce that The Attlee Foundation has generously pledged £25,000 in bursaries to support five exceptional students from the Attlee A Level Academy as they progress to higher education in September.
This invaluable donation will help students cover essential costs, such as travel, accommodation, laptops, study materials and other academic expenses.
The bursary is designed to ease financial pressures and allow students to fully concentrate on their studies and future aspirations.
Sulliman Peerbacos, Group Curriculum Director for NCC’s Attlee A Level Academy, said this support would make a huge difference to the lives of the students receiving the money.
He said: “I am deeply grateful to The Attlee Foundation for their generous support in providing these bursaries. This financial assistance will be immensely helpful in easing the burden on our students, enabling them to focus on their studies and reach their full potential.”
The five students will receive a total of £5,000 each, spread over the course of their three years at university.
Current students studying at the Attlee Academy can apply for the bursary by submitting a 2,500-word essay which explores the life and legacy of Clement Attlee and his impact on social reform.
The college will then shortlist the five best essays and submit them to The Attlee Foundation in May.
Along with submitting the essay, students must:
- Be a recipient of the current college bursary
- Have a family income below £30,000
- Demonstrate strong academic performance
- Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
- Show active contribution to college life
The five selected students will be formally awarded their bursaries from representatives of The Attlee Foundation at the Attlee and Tower Hamlets Campus Awards evening in July.
This initiative highlights The Attlee Foundation’s commitment to supporting young people in achieving their academic dreams. As a small charity, their prioritisation of Attlee Academy students is an incredibly heartwarming gesture that will make a positive impact on the lives of the five students.
The Attlee A Level Academy, based in Stepney E1, is focused on high academic achievement and university progression with an extensive choice of A Level subjects and enrichment opportunities. The campus is named after Clement Attlee, a former UK Prime Minister with roots in the Stepney community, who was a great advocate for social equality and advancement.
The Attlee Foundation was established in 1967 to benefit people disadvantaged by a lack of opportunity. The Foundation’s objective is to continue Clement Attlee’s vision by undertaking innovative projects to provide opportunity for all.
