Business students excel at Ministry of Defence work placements

New City College Business students recently completed some fantastic work placements at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) – a unique experience that no other college in the UK currently offers.

The special partnership between NCC and the MoD, now in its second year, continues to provide students with opportunities that open doors, boost their confidence and help prepare them for the professional workplace.

The BTEC Business students from across six NCC campuses – Ardleigh Green, BSix, Epping Forest, Havering Sixth Form, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets – were able to get a rare and valuable insight into the world of government and public sector business operations at one of the country’s most fascinating organisations.

Mahnaz Asgari Joorshari, Deputy Group Curriculum Director for Business at NCC, said the college was grateful to all at the MoD, particularly the HR department and the teams responsible for the Ministry’s main building. Their support and guidance had helped ensure everything ran smoothly for the students.

She said: “The MoD has been an outstanding partner, ensuring our BTEC students are placed in areas that align with their studies, and allowing them to see the true connection between academic theory and professional practice.

“In their feedback, managers at the Ministry of Defence praised our students for their professionalism and development, underlining the impact that this experience has had on their future careers.”

From day one, students were immersed in real business environments, gaining first-hand experience and applying classroom knowledge to real workplace challenges.

Mahnaz added: “The feedback from students was just as good. They said they enjoyed the placements and the hands-on experience, but also they could recognise a remarkable improvement in their confidence and employability skills.

“We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved and are excited for the continued partnership with the MoD, providing even more opportunities for our future leaders.”
