NCC links up with employers to offer career opportunities at jobs fair

New City College was one of the main exhibitors at a fantastic Jobs Fair in Canary Wharf where over 500 people from across London and Essex visited to find out about thousands of exciting career opportunities.

Held at the stunning East Wintergarden venue, the event was one of the largest recruitment events to be delivered in the area with more than 50 employers offering advice to residents on how they could get back into work after being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jamie Stevenson, Group Executive Director – Apprenticeships & Business Development, at New City College said: “The event was a huge success and demonstrates the great work that can be achieved when working in partnership with stakeholders and employers.

“New City College are committed to supporting the borough’s employers and residents to ensure sufficient training and upskilling opportunities are readily available for individuals looking to get back into employment, progress and develop their career.

“This is the first of many collaborations together to ensure employers have a skilled workforce and individuals develop their careers.”

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, pictured above talking to Jamie Stevenson, said: “I’m so pleased to see these job events take place. They provide an opportunity for local people to meet with employers and to learn about opportunities, as well as helping our local economy.

“The pandemic has had and is still having an enormous impact on all of us, and I want to thank all the employers who attended for showing their commitment to our community and for providing employment opportunities at this really important point in our economy’s recovery.”

Howard Dawber, Canary Wharf Group Managing Director, Strategy said: “We were delighted that so many cafe, bar and restaurant operators came together to offer some exciting vacancies to local people with dozens being offered jobs on the day.”

In total, over 1,000 job vacancies were on offer to those who attended. This included opportunities from leading employers such as New City College, Brewdog, G4S and East London Business Alliance.

The fair comes after the success of the Tower Hamlets Construction event held in September, with the latest Canary Wharf Jobs Fair providing even more opportunities across several sectors, thanks to the existing partnership with New City College and Canary Wharf Group.

More recruitment events are now in discussion for 2022.
