Culture Days celebrate diversity across New City College campuses

New City College was buzzing with colour, music and carnival vibes as each campus hosted its own Culture Day – a lively enrichment event celebrating the many cultures represented in the student and staff communities at NCC.

The initiative – which gets bigger and better each year – brought everyone together to enjoy food, fashion, music and traditions from around the world, fostering inclusivity, understanding and unity across the college.

Ardleigh Green Campus

At Ardleigh Green in Hornchurch, students embraced the energy of the day with immersive VR experiences, henna art, T-shirt decorating and a lively red-carpet dance party, led by the rhythmic beats of the Dhol drums and a campus DJ.

Redbridge Campus

At Redbridge in Chadwell Heath, the campus really came alive with colour, laughter and music. Students pinned their heritage on a world map display, took part in quizzes and dominoes, and enjoyed henna, face painting and international food – all while dancing to DJ Pebz and Dhol drummer Taz.

Tower Hamlets

There was a fantastic atmosphere at Tower Hamlets Campus in Poplar, East London, where staff and students celebrated in style, including a silent disco for SEN students, a red carpet show, and various creative workshops. A raffle was held and all proceeds were donated to a local food bank.

Rainham Campus

Celebrations at the Construction and Engineering Centre in Rainham featured an electric catwalk showcasing traditional outfits, flag-waving, dancing and cultural crafts. Prizes were awarded for best dressed, while students explored food and games from around the globe.

Epping Forest Campus

Students at the Epping Forest Campus in Borders Lane, Loughton, helped run activity stalls and joined in a range of cultural experiences, games and competitions, making it a fun and memorable day.

Hackney Campus

Hackney’s event brought students together and featured a red-carpet catwalk, calligraphy, origami, photo booths, live music, and a buzzing walkway with so much creativity on display. The day culminated in a powerful performance by Taz, the popular Dhol drummer.

Attlee and Arbour Square

The Attlee A Level Academy and Arbour Square Campus in Stepney, East London, combined fun and culture with steel pan music, limbo, sunglasses art and fan designing, while the Attlee Band performed for the first time.

Havering Sixth Form

At Havering Sixth Form, in Hornchurch, students showcased their cultural identities in the sunshine on a fashion runway outside in the college grounds, led by resident Dhol drummer Taz! They also enjoyed international snacks, map puzzles, music and colourful cultural displays.

Hackney Sixth Form

At Hackney Sixth Form, in Kenninghall Road, Clapton, students enjoyed a cultural market on the campus with stalls offering food from across the globe, hands-on craft activities, and music from a lively DJ set that brought everyone together in an inclusive atmosphere.

Emma Wood, Group Head of Tutorial and Enrichment, said: “It was wonderful to see our campus communities come together, with students and staff showing off their cultural clothes and dancing on the red carpets to the sounds of the Dhol drums. There was a fantastic atmosphere at every one of the Culture Days at each campus and the events were a true celebration of the diversity that makes New City College unique.”
