Media students’ movie selected for London Breeze Film Festival

A short film produced by Creative Media students from New City College Ardleigh Green has been selected for screening at the London Breeze Film Festival 2025, one of the UK’s leading showcases for emerging filmmakers.

The film, titled Grab ‘n’ Go, will be screened at The Garden Cinema in Covent Garden on Sunday 26 October at 1:30pm, as part of the festival’s Children & Youth Shorts Showcase.

The London Breeze Film Festival, now in its tenth year, runs from 22 to 26 October in person, with online screenings continuing until 2 November.

Set in a near-future East London, the movie Grab ‘n’ Go follows a group of small-time criminals as they adapt to life in a rapidly advancing technological world. The light-hearted neo-noir comedy draws inspiration from directors Guy Ritchie and Edgar Wright, blending fast-paced storytelling with a distinctly British sense of humour.

The project was devised as an end-of-year assignment by eight students – Christopher Charnick, Jaime Chatifield, Ethan Claydon, Jamie Gray, Lily McGuinness, Lola Percy, Jack Shelly and Georgia Ward – all studying for their Extended Diploma in Creative Media at Ardleigh Green Campus. The production was overseen by lecturer Dominic Jeffery, who praised the students for their professionalism and creativity.

He said: “Each member of the production had the opportunity to explore different roles within a small film crew. They worked collaboratively during pre-production and executed their one-day shoot with precision, rotating responsibilities across directing, sound, lighting and camera work. In keeping with the ‘Imagined Futures’ theme, they even used AI technology to help create the soundtrack.”

Earlier in the year, Grab ‘n’ Go was also selected for the Lift-Off First Time Filmmaker Festival, part of the international Lift-Off Global Network. Although the film did not progress beyond the first judging round, its inclusion was a strong achievement in what was described as an ‘exceptionally competitive field’.

Following that experience, the team’s success with the London Breeze Film Festival marks another significant milestone in their development as young filmmakers. The group has also submitted their work to two further national festivals, with results expected later this year and in early 2026.
