New City College hosts exciting London region pan-ability football tournament

New City College Havering Sixth Form Campus was proud to host the AoC Sport London Pan-Ability Football Tournament, welcoming students and staff from across the region for an afternoon that celebrated inclusion, teamwork and sporting excellence.

The tournament brought together around 50 players from SEND departments at colleges across east London, all competing for the chance to be crowned regional champions and secure qualification for the AoC Sport National Championships.

Teams representing NCC Havering (from Ardleigh Green Campus), Barking and Dagenham 1, Barking and Dagenham 2, NewVic and Newham took part in a fast-paced 5-a-side indoor format, creating an exciting and supportive atmosphere throughout the competition.

Players from all teams demonstrated some fantastic football skills in the competitive and closely fought matches, with Barking and Dagenham 2 emerging as the overall winners.

NCC Havering students also put in a strong performance, with memorable moments including a dramatic last-second equaliser scored by Liam Bott in the team’s second game. The NCC squad, managed by John Peaper, included Liam Bott, Harry Graves, Ibrahim Miah, Thomas Frost, Faith Mukwenya, Brayden Draper, Kano Saheeb, Ahmed Saleem, Charanjit Ubhi and Kieran Manning.

As well as showcasing the talents of the players, the event highlighted the important role NCC students play within the wider community. Level 2 Sport students from Havering Sixth Form acted as referees for all the matches, earning widespread praise for their professionalism and fairness. Supported by sports teachers, the students gained valuable real-world experience while contributing to the smooth running of the event.

The tournament was organised by Michael Leader, Group Sport and Fitness Enrichment Coordinator at New City College. He praised the participants and the student officials, saying: “It was fantastic to see so many students coming together in such a positive and inclusive environment.

“The atmosphere was competitive but respectful. Events like this show the power of sport to build confidence, friendships and community links, and our Level 2 Sport students were outstanding in the way they supported and officiated the games throughout the day.”

NCC is proud to champion inclusive opportunities and create experiences for all students both on and off the pitch.
